In June and July 2019, Civil Hospital – the city’s and state’s biggest tertiary public hospital – had reported 573 OPD cases of viral fever, seasonal flu, dengue, chikungunya, malaria and typhoid. Believe it or not, in the past two months, the hospital has recorded less than 100 cases of these diseases – caused by viral and bacterial infection.
Gujarat recorded 1,153 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours ending 5 pm on Friday, taking the state tally to 61,438. Its Gujarat's fourth consecutive day of 1,100-plus cases.

Ahmedabad city police commissioner Ashish Bhatia has taken over as director general of police (DGP) of Gujarat. The 1985-batch IPS officer succeeded Shivanand Jha, who retired on Friday after a three-month extension. Bhatia, 58, will continue to hold the additional charge of Ahmedabad police commissioner until a new police commissioner is appointed for Ahmedabad in the next 48 hours, the government said.
The World Health Organization has evinced interest in the ‘Amdavad Model’ to fight Covid, spurring curiosity about the model across the world. Rajiv Kumar Gupta, additional chief secretary of the forest and environment department — specially deputed to handle the Covid situation in Ahmedabad — said on Friday that the WHO was apprised of the model.
