Four people have been detained in Gujarat for manufacturing counterfeit antibiotic drugs. The drugs, which were packaged as being manufactured by a company in Himachal Pradesh, were actually calcium carbonate tablets. The state food and drugs control administration conducted raids in Nadiad, Surat, Ahmedabad, and Rajkot, seizing fake antibiotics worth Rs 17.5 lakh. The accused worked as medical representatives for "benami" companies and delivered the fake medicines to doctors. The case has been registered under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
